Welcome to EthnoRussia!
Many people, both in
Russia and abroad, believe that Russian folk music is all alike and sounds
like the famous "Kalinka" performed by matryoshka-looking women with
balalaikas. However, beyond the "official" Russian
"traditional" music that you can hear on Russian radio or that gets
officially exported to other countries, there is an infinite ocean of
genuine musical culture.
There are songs that
mothers have been singing to their daughters, from generation to
generation. These songs were carried through hundreds and hundreds of
years, sometimes evolving, sometimes staying close to what they
sounded like in those ancient days. Many songs even survived from
pre-Christian times.
The goal of EthnoRussia is
to protect these ancient traditional Russian songs,
to share our knowledge and promote the real Russian traditional
music to the rest of the
world.
The site will include
new sections, texts and songs. Discover the world of Russian traditional folk music!
